Blogging Software

Okay, so I haven’t been good at blogging here. Right now I’m actually a little focused on another blog I’m working on. The other blog has a podcast that goes along with it that I record on my Mac with Ubercaster and Skype. As that is on the Mac, I thought I’d take a look at some blogging software on here as well. Right now I’ve found two major Mac Blogging Clients that I think I’ll use for awhile and see how I like it. I’ll try switching off between the two.

The first one, and the one I’m using right now, is MarsEdit 2 by Red Sweater Software. The interface is fairly nice, looking a bit like Mac Mail with a blog list pane on the left, list of recent posts, and a preview of the selected post in a reading pane. The blog pane can be easily hidden with a touch of a button and a new post can easily be started. It has a nice little media manager to quickly upload an image or other media for you and inputs the appropriate HTML into your post. That’s one of the problems I have with MarsEdit. While I like being able to go into the HTML and edit things, I really do want a WYSIWYG view what the post might look like as I’m writing it. MarsEdit does have a preview option that let’s you look at your post in HTML format. Nice, but that’s no where near what the post is really going to look like. Is this worth $29.95 to purchase? For someone who blogs like me, maybe not. For someone that blogs like Leo Laporte or Merlin Mann? Sure. In fact, they recommend it.

The second program I’m looking at is Ecto, but that’s another post.
